How Will Sunday’s Rubber Glove Factory Fire Affect Latex Glove Market?

In February, we talked about a great article from GSFCC (Latex Raw Material Price Trend) that outlined the current latex market, and how the market events and natural disasters of 2010 would affect glove prices in 2011.

This week, we saw an unfortunate news story out of Indonesia that could mean critical environments will experience even more fluctuations in latex and rubber glove availability and prices.

On Sunday, a fire broke out at a workers’ hostel and rubber glove factory in Batu Belah, Bali. There were no fatalities, but it was reported that about 300 workers were left homeless and several boxes of latex gloves were destroyed.

This kind of incident will certainly affect production schedules for the large factory, which supplies major U.S. cleanroom supplies companies. In an already volatile latex and rubber market, this sort of event has the potential to drive prices up even more.
