How are Gloves Made?

Today Valutek is bringing you a very informative and interesting video that takes you behind the scenes of glove production. Nearly 27 billion disposable gloves were sold in the United States alone, this Valutek sponsored video shows the complete process of how disposable gloves are created. The video shows the complete process that starts with the cleaning of the forms through nitric acid, nylon brushes and filtered water then ends with the final product being blown off at the finish of the dip-line. The video shows this amazing process that involves 4,800 formers and produces approximately 10,200 gloves in a single hour!

Semicon West 2011 is an exhibit and event show being held July 12-14, 2011 in San Francisco, California. The event being held at the Moscone Center features 15,000 exhibitors allowing visitors the opportunity to view the latest and greatest technologies involved in semiconductors, printed and flexible electronics, lighting and solar power. The Global Society for Contamination Control (GSFCC) will be one of those featured exhibitors, located at the North Hall of Moscone Center at booth N4. Semicon has been known in the past to be a relatively expensive event to attend, but Semicon West 2011 will feature 140 speakers with around 50 hours of free speaking. One of these events those in the industry are excited about is the 450mm Wafer Transition Forum.

This forum will host Paolo Gargini, the chairman of International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), along with many others to discuss the industry-wide discussion about transitioning to a larger 450mm wafer. The transition to a larger wafer is needed to follow Moore’s Law. For those that are not familiar with Moore’s law a simple explanation of is that for every two years that pass, the number of transistors that can be inexpensively placed on an integrated circuit doubles. The 450mm Wafer Transition Forum will be discussing all the information currently in the industry that pertains to the needs, processing, and the challenges involved with the 450mm wafer transition roadmap.

Selecting the right wiper for your cleanroom needs

There are many selections when it comes to cleanroom wipers, and you must ensure that the product chosen will be the safest and most efficient for your needs. Contamination control is the major issue when looking for the correct product, but each industry has appropriate wipers that should be selected for the specific set of parameters. There are many aspects that need to be considered when choosing a wiper for your industry. Pre-wetted wipers prove to remove more particles from surfaces than dry wipers. The choice must be considered between dry and pre-wetted, as pre-wetted may not be applicable to the select industry for potentially being hazardous or inefficient to use on the specified product. The wiper must abide by your set industry parameters for certain characteristics of cleanliness and contaminants. Laundered and sealed edge wipers made from synthetic material will provide the highest cleanliness and lowest amount of contaminants. Exploring Engineering and the Sanford Underground Laboratory

There are two very interesting articles about two groups entering cleanrooms that most likely have not in the past. One is a group of students exploring the thought of pursuing education in engineering and the second is a group of reporters that were allowed to take a tour of an underground laboratory in South Dakota.

A unique summer program in Louisville is inspiring and providing information to teens about engineering’s wide range of fields and were it is applied. The Brown-Forman INSPIRE program, or Increasing Student Preparedness and Interest in the Requisites for Engineering program, has been offered since 1981. The program is specifically designed to increase awareness of the diversity of engineering fields for high school students and prepare them for engineering programs in college. The program allows the students to suit up and enter a cleanroom where nanotechnology and microelectronics are currently being developed. The second article brings a more complex and scientific look into a cleanroom environment. Media was allowed to join a tour of the Sanford underground laboratory, a former gold mine 4,850 feet underground that has been rebuilt to conduct “dark matter” experiments. Throughout the tour media was able to view many interesting scientific processes at work. They observed a cleanroom where workers wore full body coveralls as they processed copper through acid baths during a purification process, engineers laser scanning the newly constructed cavern where a new lab addition will be built, and a 40 foot high cavern where a 100ton tank of water will be built to conduct a future dark matter experiment. Interview With ETH Professor Christofer Hierold About Nanotechnology

ETH Zurich Professor Christofer Hierold researches and works with nanotechnology. ETH, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, conducted an interview with Professor Heirold to discuss the structures, materials and applications of nanotechnology. Professor Heirold talks about his fascination with nanotechnology, how their specific work in their cleanroom would be hazardous if they did not take proper steps to protect themselves with masks, gloves, etc., and how technology has almost unlimited possibilities.
